Social Cause Magazine Feature

I created this 3-spread magazine article in 2016 around a social issue that I feel is important, the Dakota Access Pipeline. I designed it around the height of the conflict, and I wanted to highlight how dramatic and intense the events were, so for the opening spread I used a photo with high contrast from when police used tear gas and water cannons on the protestors. I used red – color of intensity, and photos to communicate the suffering and passion of the people connected to these lands and issue. I also wanted to remind the reader of the history coloring the conflict, and so used red headers to draw attention to the side bars.
